The stand is small and compact, surrounded by shrubby alliances, Salvia mellifera, etc. The stand is about 750 m below and south of South Chalone Peak on a small ridge intercepting the confluence of a large drainage. The land was acquired by PINN from BLM in 2000. No fire evidence or evidence of grazing. The plot is located in the bottom center of the stand. The plot is on the lower 1/3 of the ridge on a SW-facing slope.
